The question he asked me was "What's your name?" Simple question? Simple answer? What does he want by asking me what my name is? What will he get as a reward if he knows my name. Will he know me if he knows my name?
What is so important about names anyway, she asks? Why do we hold importance to names. What does it mean "to have a good name"? What qualifies as a good name. Are we put in this world to live up to our name?
What if we have a strange name that has no meaning at all? Does a name with a meaning mean it is a good name, or is it a good name when we complete the function of our name? Example: Naomi as a name means "to be pleasurable." When Naomi acts in a pleasurable way she is living up to her name.
A name is an identity, but what if we were given the wrong name at birth, we legally have the ability to change our names in the USA courtroom.
What if a name becomes a ticket for others to hate you. To hate someone because of their name and what their name means because the person who hates it covets your name, he does not have this name, and he has no goal to live up to the reputation of a good name.
If we are named after a righteous person, we have that reputation to create in our own lives and we have a stepping stone towards creating that good reputation--which is our name itself. How can we live up to a righteous name which came from a righteous person if we do not have this name? We need the name to start with and this is why our baby naming is so important, to create a name that will become our daughter's or son's lifetime goal. We have a child, we create life, and we name our children to give them a lifetime goal to live up to their name. To give this child a reason to live. To give our children a purpose here on Earth.
What's in a name and why is a name significant at all? All things have names, and we are what our name says we are. It is a stamp, and so we go through life living up to this identification, and if we were robbed of a good name, we can change it and create our own name.
God has 50 names, and He lives up to all 50. We are here on Earth to live up to our name. We have about 70 years of a lifetime to do this. Our name gives us a goal. It is our calling, we all have a calling because we all have a name, or more than one name.
So you ask: why am I here? What should I do here on Earth in my short lifetime? Answer: Live up to your name.
