The Torah tells us that having a "Good Name" is "worth more than monetary riches, it is more valuable than the largest amount of gold."
Having a name you like that makes you feel good, having a name that gives you an identity, a name that separates you from other people, or a name that includes you in a group with people of the same names, to be in a group of people with the same names to be one of them.
Knowing the meaning of your name, as it then becomes a reason to live, an identity of a name to live up to. Not having a nobody name, instead being the one in your life to make your name, to give your name significance by the deeds you accomplish in your life, having your name made public because of your good deed that associates your name with your accomplishment.
To use your name in your life's choice to be famous or infamous, to use your name in your life for fame and not infamy, to have a name that influences the world politically towards an improvement, a betterment.
A name that counts. A name that represents who you are and what you want of others, or what you have to give to others.
Being the one who is in control of your name, not letting others control your name.
To have a legal name that is on a legal document, not to try to change your identity to use your name to circumvent legality.
To be proud of your name, proud of your family identity and background, not to use a name to hide who you really are because of shame of your family or shame of your ethnic or religious background.
To have a name of which to be proud, to use your name to make a difference, to be someone and have a name that honestly represents who you are and where you came from and what you are doing.
Having a Biblical name that brings you closer to G-D. Changing Jacob to Israel. Having a name change that includes you in the religion of Judaism. Obtaining a legal name change from a Rabbi who gives you a name to include you in the religion of Judaism as one of the Israelites who are named in The Torah.
Not to have an English name when you are not English, instead you are Jewish. Going to a legal court for a legal name change to change this English name to a Jewish name from The Torah instead. To not have a name that lives a lie, to be proud to be Jewish and to make your Judaism public, as your name becomes beautiful like the names in The Torah, names of Prophets who brought the Word of The Lord to the people, names that represent goodness and righteousness, a name of a kind-hearted person who uses his name in honesty to give love to the world, as his name is loved by others and he too loves his own name.
