Knowing the Names of Your Demons

In the book titled The Jewish Book of Days by Jill Hammer, she says: "To know the names of your demons." Demons become your friends once you learn their name. Respect names. Remember names. Learn names. Use the correct names. Do not name someone a name that they do not want used. Hebrew names are correct names. Birth certificate names are correct names. If you use your legal choice to change your name in court, the name you choose is your correct name. If you do not like your name you can change it. Some children are born with the wrong names. Some names allow for nicknames--do not call somebody by a nickname unless the person uses it himself and likes it. Do not rename someone unless you have their approval. A Rabbi has the ability from God to name or change the Hebrew name of her congregation or converts. This is a religious right and religious rights are to be respected and no one is to be discriminated against because of their religious rights: religious discrimination is against the Law and it comes in all forms of hate crimes including harassment such as the dishonoring of someone's Hebrew name. Women may or may not take the name of their spouse, and men may or may not take the name of their wives. This is a choice as well and no one should be forced to take his/her spouse's name without their consent. Names are very important: One tries in life to make a name for him/herself. The way to make a name for yourself is to respect the names of others.
