Feeling the shame of poverty, to be poor, pretending instead to be rich, gift giving to trick others into thinking you are rich when in fact you are poor. The poor, motherless, fatherless, childless, strangers, widows, and orphans in our community are the most blessed of all.
Having shame and disgust of oneself, thinking you are fat when you are actually very thin, needing to dress in the finest clothing to show off when you really have a poor self image of yourself. Putting on airs.
Trying to be in control of other people. Thinking you have the lives of others in the palm of your hands and to then be the one to give them life or to take their life away.
Eating pork and calling it a holy experience, never having read the Torah.
Threatening your family after a night of binge drinking. Not accepting encouragement and hiding the truths.
Knowing you went blind but not admitting it. Expressing anger when someone tries to care for you. Pretending you do not need a caregiver, when the truth is that you cannot financially afford one, and that is why you do not have one.
Seeing all the deceit and hoping your "new year" resolutions will change things for you.
