DETERMINATION AND PERSEVERANCE

Being at a bowling alley and throwing the heavy large ball again and again, knocking down as many pins as I can, throwing faster and faster, with greater precision each time, avoiding the gutters, aiming with a penetrating eye, watching the pins fall and fly apart, all of them--it's a strike! I won the game!

Playing chess with an expert, but having G-d on my side. Sliding the bishop over diagonally and killing all my opponent's pieces in one swipe, like checkers, when the opponent's king is taken. Planning, developing strategies, with one goal in mind: to kill all the opposing pieces and to win the game and take home the prize. Shouting "Checkmate!" and standing tall.

Swimming in a swim meet race and swallowing water, spitting it out, closing eyes, diving deeply and stretching out my arms in wide circles, speedily paddling my legs and moving faster than the speed of light; not drowning, coming out ahead of all the other swimmers. Water moving out of my way as I am slithery like a reptile, one goal in mind, to win the race, to be number one, to use my determination and single-mindedness to earn the prize, to take home the biggest trophy, to succeed, to use perseverance to beat all the other swimmers, to come out first. Gold medal time!

Getting chosen to be in a writing contest and to submit the most talented piece of writing, the best story, a story that catches one's interest, a poem with the best adjectives, a theme that is eye-opening, that causes excitement, an adventure, a gladness from the reader who gets to read it. A perseverance to finish the story in the allotted contest time limit, writing despite a cramping wrist; to earn the respect of your readers, to tell them a story they will never forget, to make a difference in their lives, to give them something to remember--determination--to be the one and only who cures all ills, who heals all diseases, who can be counted on, who will make a difference in the world to everyone who s/he comes in contact with--a Superstar!
