Live and Let Live

Volcanoes shooting white hot Stars of David out of lava-filled wide gaping mouths in heated anger:

He said: "Do you know what the date is today? Do you know who the President is? What year is it? What was the year last year?"

"Well," I said, "My answer depends on if you are looking at a solar calendar which began with the instatement of the Roman reign 2,000 years ago of if you want the lunar calendar which has been in existence for 5775 years, we hope." (She smiles in approval at me from her photograph on my mirror.)

He said: "Why do you need to be so smart? Do you have the Borderline Personality Disorder and that is why you think you are smarter than me? Are you grandiose with psychosis and that is why you are standing up for your rights and not obeying a doctor when he is wrong? Do you want sugar in your coffee so we can stab your stomach and fill it with insulin made from a pig? And you are not eating enough! Do you want to become anorexic?"

How to live in peace? I said, "Did you know the Bible says that King David lived in the wilderness in "ripped underwear"?!

He said: "Then you would be considered homeless and the police would arrest you." (And she would be crying in her beer.)

Turn it all around and make yourself numb to pain. (But do not take a Tylenol.) Experience your passions instead. Pretend you are eating cinnamon and she is delivering a speech to millions of people about justice and equal rights for all people. As an extra enticement--turn off your computer and start Shabbat in the middle of the week. Sounds good--the freedom to celebrate Shabbat any day of the week of your choice. Not using any electronics, but humming sacred songs, smelling cloves, and watching God pass by in the clouds. Any day of the week of your choice! If you are dying on a Tuesday, don't wait till Saturday because Saturday may never come! Read Torah and become a living Priest and stay alive. Live and let live...
