A Conversation With A Stranger

Breaking up the day with a chat here and there.

He said "He always enjoys talking to people."
He gets paid for answering the phone.

"I love to smell Lilac Flower Water," I told him. "And there is a bottle of lotion I use called Sweet on Paris. I sniff it on the Havdalah instead of spices."

He pounded on the piano and then flicked his cigarette.

"I have a sweater that is so thick I will never be cold in the winter." I also told him, "My cousin is a professor."

He opened his mouth wide--his cousin wasn't.

I pounded on the keyboard of my computer like it was a piano.

He said "What do you write about?"

I said "I write about being thirsty and then getting water, and I write about being hungry and then getting food." I whispered secretly: "She wants to conquer world hunger. She has conquered mine. I am now fed everyday promptly at 7, 12 and 5 p.m. and get snacks in between."

"So you are not hungry?"

"No."

"So what makes you so lucky?"

"I am not lucky," I told him, "I am blessed. Well, good bye, I am going now."

"Shalom."
