What type of greeting goes to whom? Good weekend or Shabbat. How can we establish an honorable way to greet people on Saturdays and Sundays. Do you know Jewish people who say their family never used the "Shabbat Shalom" greeting and they prefer also not to use it. How can we establish a bond on a Saturday and/or Sunday with Jews and/or non-Jews?
The Talmud Volume One tells us how to rest on Shabbat. What to do, what or what not to do. Nice to say to someone that you have a "date with your couch" on a Saturday if you are Jewish so someone does not expect you to work on Saturday.
To remind someone that you do not work on Saturdays. If it is a non-Jew who asks you to work and you are Jewish, they may not even know you keep the sanctity of a holiday once a week and that you do no work. You must explain it to them. They may be taken aback when you tell them, it could be something that they never knew. Don't expect non-Jews to know Jewish rituals. And do not anger if they ask you to break the rules. They do not know. Have no knowledge of your life patterns or intentions.
Yes, it is ok to tell them that you wish them a good weekend. Your weekend ends on Saturday night and theirs on Sunday night.
Sundays for us as Jews are the beginning of a new week. We pray the Havdalah on Saturday nights. For us as Jews the weekend or Shabbat ends on Saturday at sunset.
Can we walk step in step with someone who worships different Gods on different days? We can respect their rituals if they in turn are making an effort to respect yours.
Sanctification means isolation. Exile. Must we segregate ourselves into exile to be able to worship our God as we please? This is between you and your God, no one else.
